How do I get a stratitec ic56a with an agere chip to work on a fresh install of 6.10 64bit? I tried several months ago to learn Linux, but never got another modem to work. I kinda gave up for a while because I could not do much without internet. So now I am going to try to start over again. I am very new to Linux, so detailed and specific instructions would help. The only thing I have done on this install is copy the scanmodem.gz file to the desktop from a flash drive. I have not even been able to extract that properly to get it to work.

Hi,
I also have been having the same problem. There seems to be a lot of advice/answers but I have to admit it I haven't been able to understand the answers. I wonder if anyone has actually been successful using scanModem? Good Luck. I keep looking anyway.](*,)

I was able to use it the 1st time I installed 6.06, but could not get everything configured correctly. The hsf modem I was using then fried and I have a new one now. I just do not know enough of the linux commands to move around very much in the system to get stuff done.
