hello guys/gals,

I have just installed 32bit dapper, and went looking in synaptic for the SMP kernal. Well I only found one for the older "K7" processor.
I have a opteron 165 dual core CPU, so would like the "K8" version.

Can I get a "K8" SMP kernal for this setup or do I have to install 64bit dapper for it to work properly.
I only installed 32bit version because i figured that the 64bit one would have less support and be a PITA to use.

Any advice for me...please :)

Thanx again

The 64bit version of Dapper is not a pita to use. There is also good support. There is no 32bit K8 kernel.

Thanx for the reply.

If 64bit is not that bad I may go ahead and install it. Since this is a fresh install of 32bit it wont be too much of a hassle.

I did just install the 686-SMP kernal in this 32bit setup and I do get 2 cpu's working.

I dont know if the performance will take a hit because of this but ill give it a try.
Unless someone has already been through this and can tell me if one way is better than the other.

Thanx again
