Hi.
I apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong place...if there's a better place to go for Inkscape questions would someone please let me know. Thanks.
I'm trying to bend text around a circular object and can't figure out how to do it. See attached for example.
Anyone know how to do this?
Thanks.

Choose the text object, and the object you want to bend it around, and hit Text / Put on Path.

Hmmmm.
Nothing happens when I do that.

Make sure the object you choose is a path. See if you're getting an error in the status bar.

It's a path.
Maybe I'm understanding you wrong.
I can:
1) Create a freehand path in the shape of a circle. (To make sure that it's a path)
2) Type some text.
3) Select those two things and then select Text - Put on Path
and this should bend the text around the circle I drew?

Good to know. Keep an eye on the status bar in Inskcape especially when things get tricky; it gives informative error and status messages.

Just for future reference, Inkscape's own tutorials files are excellent - and written in SVG, so you can dissect them to see how things are done! They're at Help->Tutorials inside Inkscape.
Also, there's an awesome Inkscape guide online - http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/
And the status bar in Inkscape is great too - unlike a lot of programs, Inkscape actually gives (usually) useful info in it's status bar!
