I am looking to build a new computer, and I was wondering if you could help me make some decisions on the system components. Right now I'm thinking of getting these things:

Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe NVIDIA nForce 4 SLI X16 Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 (not sure which one to go with)
NVIDIA graphics card (not sure, but thinking one of the GeForce 7800 series)
Antec Nine Hundred ATX Ultimate Gamer Tower Case
CD burner, haven't really looked at any

As for the sound card, floppy and ethernet, I have the sound card and floppy covered, I'm thinking that the built-in ethernet card should work, but if not, it's also covered.

I would like to be able to run some 3d games, probably just something along the lines of Nexuiz which I cannot play now. Also, I am looking at the dual core for the reason that my internet connection is fairly slow (although not dial-up) and downloads tend to slow down my current computer quite a bit.

Also, I hope this was the right place to post it, because I am looking for the best gaming configuration.

The price range on the upper level X2s is really close right now.
On Newegg the 5000 is $269, while the 5200 is $276. The only real difference is that the 5200 has twice the L2 cache (2x1M as opposed to 2x512k on the 5000).
The problem with that is the board you've chosen is Socket 939, and the Windsors are AM2. I think the highest 939 goes is the 4200 series, but I could be wrong.

Hmm. Well then, if AM2 is the step-up -or at least next gen- from 939 (I was looking around and multiple places were saying that the 939 has gone out of production?) is there an AM2 motherboard that anyone would suggest?

If you have to have the latest (well the AM2 came out awhile ago) go for it (but really don't).
The performance increase is just not enough. If you are looking to get a new Mobo and CPU look into the Intel Conroe depending on the type, you will get better performance at a cheaper price. There are many reviews try "Intel Conroe vs AMD" in a search.
