If you would like to participate in ISO testing, please sign up in this tread and indicate what architectures you are able to test. You may also want to state which which CD/DVD type you will be testing (distro flavour, Live, alternate, sever, etc.) so we can try to distribute the testing.

Update: Great to see so many people signed up. Testing for Herd 2 has now started. Please read the HowTo (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=331123) and jump in!

Hi Henrik!

Nice to see developers on the forums :D

I would like to help testing on a x86 laptop. I prefer the Desktop CD/DVD, but if there is nobody else I can also test the alternate CD (and DVD).

Let me know if you need something else.

Best

I enjoy testing Debian Etch on VMWare, I should probably give feisty a try. Just as soon as I check out the new Open Solaris... that Java Desktop Service looks hot.

But yeah, all of you who are affraid of installing it on your primary system, virtual machines are the solution for you.

Yes, you can, but it's better to test with a normal installation on your system, but if you can't, to do it in a VM is better than to do nothing :D

Hello everyone.

I see there is a lot of people who would like to test the isos. However, there are just 2 or 3 post of a installation test (one of Henrik, one mine, and another one). So I want to think that you don't really know what you're supposed to do.

YOU HAVE TO TEST THE LATEST NIGHTLY BUILD.

And they are found at http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ (daily is alternate and daily-live is Desktop CD).

So please, test them before the release comes official, because what we want with this testing is to fix any (critical) bug we find on the installation process.

Thank you.

I will be testing Ubuntu and Kubuntu on 3 seperate machines.

All machines are x86 architecture, but have varying hardware.
2 are Pentium Celerons, ~800 Mhz with 256Mb memory, different years, hard drives and manafacturers
1 is an older Pentium with around ~700 Mhz and the 256Mb memory.

While these are older PCs, I feel that the need for (K,X,E,U)buntu to work on older hardware is crucial for it's widespread use. If people cannot afford Windows, how can they afford newer hardware and computers?

I will be using the Alternate installation since these computers have less memory.

Count me once, alternate cd only, ubuntu x86 on pen4ht and after 2 weeks ubuntu x64 on athlon64 3200+. Both with the same non-empty harddrive (moving from pen4ht to amd64), so I've no luck so far using Alternate cd on my machine.
Is reporting done here also?
Report 20070214:
- The partitioner acts up LP#79490
- I still had to boot with hw-detect/start_pcmcia=false

So far, I have to install Edubuntu 6.10 then do a dist-upgrade to Ubuntu 7.04. I would try that again to see if anything wierd pops up.
Come to think about it, I'll see if the system works rightaway as x64 after I move to amd64.

but an md5sum check reveals that I somehow got corrupt images. I will have to download them again

You can use rsync like so:
rsync -vvhh --archive --partial --progress --stats --perms --copy-links rsync://cdimage.ubuntu.com/cdimage/daily/current/feisty-alternate-i386.iso.torrent . && rsync -vvhh --archive --partial --progress --compress --stats --perms --copy-links rsync://cdimage.ubuntu.com/cdimage/daily/current/feisty-alternate-i386.iso .

After the download completes, you can use btdownloadcurses to check the integrity (it's faster than md5sum for me). When there's a new daily image, just run the same command in the same folder, it'll download only the different bits :guitar: 20070214 to 20070215 was 25MB for me.
Note that when rsync is updating the files, you shouldn't interrupt it, or else you are left with the updated partial files.

This post could be related to an Ubuntu bug filed at: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/123333 . ---------------------------- . .
The Tribe 2 ISO testing user database is locked and won't open until Tribe 3. I entered a bug on the regular launchpad.

On IBM Thinkpad R31, if the cursor got near the bottom, Tribe 2 suddenly signalled multiple simultaneous shutdown requests. No mouse buttons were pushed and the mouse wasn't in the top right corner.

Seems similar to Feisty bug 84119 however the temporary patch for Feisty resulted in Tribe 2 kernel panic.

Guess I have to wait for Tribe 3 to enter that one on Iso Testing, after checking that it still happens.

Cheers, Jerry:(
