Hi, I just wanted to tell someone about this as it fooled me in to thinking my accounts (I made another one to try and get it working again) had been blocked. I have tried this on three different ISPs and on Firefox and IE7 on windows and Firefox on Ubuntu at home, for some reason, if you go to http://www.ubuntuforums.com rather than http://www.ubuntuforums.org a problem arises. The problem is when you log in, it will log you straight back out again. I've changed my password thinking this may be a cloned site but I doubt anyone could get away with anything that obvious :p
Also, as a recommendation, I would put a link up somewhere on the site so that you can contact a web admin, or even a normal admin if you have troubles logging in, as I spent a good few hours with no luck trying to find someone to help :S
Apart from that blip this forum is excellent, a great tool, it really makes Ubuntu brilliant. With other distros if you have a problem it is quite hard to find out how to fix it and you end up learning to live with the OS' shortfalls, but because there are so many posts here, and such a wide variety of knowledge, it means you can get Ubuntu to work perfectly for you!

Kudos to the Ubuntu team

Yup we are aware of this issue :)

.com is there as a placeholder so that no-one steals it and trise to steal all our passwords :)

We'll get things fixed real soon hopefully.

Edit: A google search on an Ubuntu related issue brought me to the following site..

Is this official? I can't login..

Why is that a problem? This site is //ubuntuforums.org. It's not "hex-you something", and it's not "something dotorg". The other domains have been bought to prevent abuse. They are not meant to be actually used.

But you are missing the point, the internet should know where you want to go. To test this feature, go to: http://www.penisland.net/

Yes, dear, of course. As a long-time user of SWI Prolog I am utterly familiar with the "dwim" predicate.

If someone wants to find the forums here, why make it any harder than they need to? How many people had the same issue as I did, figured it out, and didn't say anything because they'd seem dumb? How many people wanted to post, and gave up? .com is the most popular suffix.

I'd think a re-direct would be pretty easy compared to a lot of extreme problems I've seen solved here.

Same here. I want to post, but it won't accept my name and password, and won't let me register with the same name or email address.

Google sent me to .com this morning; being the paranoid tinfoil hat freak that I am I immediately suspected foul play. Glad to hear that isn't the case.

Good on you all for defending the .com address from predators, but I would appreciate a simple redirect instead.

The official ubuntu forums are at www.ubuntuforums.org, the .com should redirect you but it's better to just use the www.ubuntuforums.org domain :)

Please excuse me oh wise sysadmin. But aren't the official forums at ubuntuforums.org? And www.ubuntuforums.org is just another redirect?

This isn't so much a bug as a fix. Now no more login/google finding odd pages issues :)

btw I confirm this vhost isn't accessible.
