Oh ok, I see what you mean now, that sounds like a pretty cool idea, and would be a great way to get the users who have doom 3 or don't and want to get it, to be more active and really enjoy hanging out with each other.
Now I am sure this would get more in depth as about a gaming forum such as Ubuntu's Top Gamers Hangout which would be a cool forum name, but that's not for me to put into action, but it would be a cool idea to have something like a doom3 clan or any other server game that can be used to get users in active mode to play on a huge server.
Not a bad idea and might be up for grabs if it's a possibility as well.

Not a bad Idea! It would be helpful to the intire linux gaming comunity I think. I think it would be wise to start out as a NON cometetive clan at first. I am a memeber of a clan that is non competetive and it really has a good following. Promotes fair play and good sportmanship as well.
I would be interested in helping out but my HTML/PHP/web design skills are lacking.

Just a suggestion, but why not a good free game like America's Army?
That way anyone could play/join.

I would suggest not limiting it to a game at all. Start a forum and have a place to post for each game some one is interested in and have a general discussion area.
I could start playing around with one if there is enough interest but would probably need help with grapics and banners and such.

Warcraft III would be a good one too, even though it isn't native.

OK I got bored and decided to try something out. I'm no whiz when it come to this stuff but I am learning. I already have a site that I have been messing with but it had no meassage boards or anything like that. So I basicly I set it up there.
If some of you who are interested please check it out and tell me what you think. Again, I am no professional and I tend to keep things simple.

LOL the two most popular I believe would be Americas Army and Enemy Territory
Be sure to look at jdodson's thread jdodsons list of uber linux games! (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=5153)

I think leaving out closed source games goes too far in excluding gat88 and any other closed source bits of cool.
Limiting it to games run in linux (emu or native) might make sense though.

Savage is an awesome native game too. And just for fun, classic quake 1 deathmatch is cool.
And I really wish there were more multiplayer open source games, I really would not like any non-free software on my computer.

when this game is released we should clan it: http://www.nexuiz.com/
reason? its a GPL game with free textures. its based of the darkspaces 3D engine for the original quake game. some screenshots here:
http://www.quaddicted.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=112&Itemid=2
it does not require a SUPER heavy duty machine to run either. gotta love free as in freedom and gratis.
however, i have ut-goty, ut2003, ut2004, quake3, quake2, quake, americas army, neverwinter, enemy territory, war3, wesnoth. so we can clan on anything really. thing is, i would like to start a clan based on a free game(as in freedom). i think nexuiz will be an awesome game to do that with. plus, eventually it can go into universe, which i will push for when it is released, which should be soon.
if the game is free then anyone(ASSuming they have good enough hardware) can run the game. i would like everyone to be able to play if they want.

Good forum board choice! :)
I don't see why everything has to be open source, there are a few good linux native, paid games.

Thanks for the link, looking good so far. Should be released very soon from the looks of things.

I think a linux clan should be for both open source and commercial software games that run natively in linux. The commercial games developed also for linux require a lot of effort, and a linux clan should support them as well. Otherwise we'll be using Cedega to play every cool game that appears for Windows.
If we have to choose a game to make a linux clan, let it be: ET

I wouldn't mind joinin a clan. I suck at most games but I have UT2k4 :) It runs pretty damn good on my machine.

http://www.linux-gamers.net/ has exactly this, Linux gamer clans for most of the popular online multiplayer games for GNU/Linux. Do join in on their effort if you like. A nice site for Linux gaming news too. :)

Great link, and yes it could be of some use as well, now for jdodson, that game seems like it would be kinda first person to much. But it works, and yes it looks to be a good game to host for a clan, I'm up for it when It comes out.

I think, picking a game or OS specific clan is not for me. I play different games and I do not compete. I just like playing for fun.
We (the gamers) could hang out at The LGC (http://www.linuxgamingclan.com/) and just share ideas, thoughts, support, and stories! If some one wanted to start a competetive clanfor a certain game, had the players and needed, we could tweak the forums to allow for match listing and such.
I'm about to head out for a while. But I will update info and any posts there tonight!
Feel free to join in and add comments. If you are running a game server, feel free to post infl there as well!
