I want to upgrade my computer a bit, because it's running somewhat slow when having large pictures edited in Gimp (11000px * 9000px).
What do I need to buy, more ram a new video card or something else?
I'm running -Intel Core Duo (2x1.8)
-512 ram
-video card(intel?)
thanks!:-D

11000x9000? :-k
Thats a big picture.. I would assume most computers will lag a little trying to open something that big but I don't really know since i've never tried :p

I use that kind of big pictures to achive the effect of zooming :)

Thanks, I'll get myself some ram :p .
What would go faster if I bought myself a new video card, or is that just for games?

A faster videocard won't have an impact on gimp unfortunately. New videocards are mainly used for games.

As zgornel alluded to, almost all that oomph you get with a new video card is directed toward 3D graphics, and only a small amount deals with typical 2d rendering. All the card is doing is taking what the rest of the computer is telling it to put on the screen, and putting it there. Your computer is doing all the work with The GIMP.
If you've already got a fancy processor like a Core Duo but you only have 512 megs of ram (and you're trying to work with a 9,000x11,000 px image, which takes up a Massive amount os memory), it makes sense to buy more ram, just like madmetal suggested. Sounds like your computer "thinks" fast enough - it just can't think about very much at once!
