I have purchased a new website (http://ubuntusoftware.info/). I am currently looking for some input on setting up a new design. Joshier (http://exsub.com/latest.html) has created 4 mockups (now 5) poll only pertains to first 4. I have set up a poll wanting to see which one the Ubuntu community feels is better, I will most likely go with that design. By the way his skills are for hire (http://www.exsub.com/).

Please consider the first 1 as #1, the second as #2 etc, when placing your poll.

Comments, please feel free to do so. Especially pertaining to the 5th as it is not in the poll.

It did need a facelift.

I like 1,2,4.

Of these, I think 1 looks the most professional.
2 looks the coolest.
and 4 looks pretty good too. What kind of audience are you aiming at?

Thats why I got rid of them as its viewed on Joshier's site that has been fixed. He brought it to my attention first ;) Thanks for your input Fellas.

If you follow the link instead, it should be ok. http://exsub.com/latest.html

I should point out That Joshier is the same guy that made Ubuntu Christmas Editions (http://ubuntusoftware.info/xmas.html) webdesign.

I am in the works of making a one stop shop of software for Ubuntu with additional Unique content. I have already set up a repo there with software not obtainable through any of Ubuntu's repos. I have plans in the future to mirror their repos as well. Bandwidth becomes a great consideration to weather that will happen or not.

Thank you all for your input.

Number one without a doubt is the best. Good work.

For generic and mixed software distribution/selling/presentation I would use #1 without a doubt.
If I were a game company or developing some other kind of bleeding edge user experience software I would use #2, but it lacks the calmness of #1, which I feel is essential to non-entertainment software presentation.

It's like a Ferarri (high class but still, everybody recognizes it) vs. the batmobile...

They are all very good, but i think #2 goes best with the ubuntu logo colors. The blue and green of the other ones just clash too much.

I think 1 rocks, but it would be better with a slightly different header.

Maybe darker header text.

I voted #1, just because I can't vote for #5... It is the best of them all...

Hello!

I like #1 & #3.

The #2 & #4 are too dark!
The #5 is too white!

Specifically I like #3 with the header of #1.
The water bubbles header of #3 is too "immature/childish"...
Using the grey header of #1 makes the site look more serious.

I guess that #3 is something in between...
Compared to the rest, it is not too dark & not too white either.
But if you can, change its header please...
Anyway, it is up to you...

Thanks.

P.S.1> Also, the site's http://ubuntusoftware.info/, color is too "orange". You need to use a lighter version of it...
Unless you are selling "oranges" or "orange juice"... :)

P.S.2> With what program did you create this site?

The ubuntusoftware.info site is the one which is going to be replaced with one of these 5 designs, so ignore the current template.

As for your second question, ff you was asking me, then fireworks.

Umm 1 and 5 are the best of the bunch.
Personally I think 1 is the best. Clean and professional looking.

The other while very good are a bit dark for my taste.

No 1 looks excellent, sleek, uncluttered and easy to read!

Number one is still the best in my opinion. Clean cut look which I think would appeal more to the demographic you are targeting.

Although not sure about the horizontal rule with the gradient above them. I think it's a little too much in my opinion.

Hello!

As for your second question, ff you was asking me, then fireworks.

What is "ff"?
And by "fireworks", you mean Macromedia's Fireworks?
But this is a Windows applications & not used for designing webpages...
It is used only for editing graphs & pictures.
Are you using windows applications to create the website or linux applications?

Thanks.

You can still use Fireworks to design a site and export it to .html but it's a bit more difficult to have a standards compliant site with this method and not always as efficient at loading as one made in other programs. Dreamweaver certainly integrates well with Fireworks and checks how compliant the site is with W3C standards, as you work.

I will use tidy to clean it up wont be my greatest concern at first it is getting it up and running 100's of pages to write will take some time as well, will probably let the poll run 3 days total before a decision is placed. Thanks for all the feedback.

ff was a typo, it was meant to be "if".

fireworks is used for designing webpages to posters to leaflets, any tool can be used for anything if the user is intent and fluid with the application (their chosen tool).

I'm using adobe applications to create websites and many other mediums which allow me to work creatively on.

I've also used inkscape in the past for vector logos.

p.s. fireworks is now owned by adobe, as of all the older macromedia software titles.

Anyway the dark ones rock!

Latest version install still a Macromedia product (as splash screens go) just owned by Adobe.
