Almost all games based on a Quake-Engine, all games based on a Unreal-Engine. That covers the most ;-)

Wait, i'll find detailed list ;-)

EDIT:
Here you are:

My personal recommendation is RtCW: Enemy Territory and its mod True Combat: Elite. Both are available for free download.

Sorry, but aren't they first person shooters, not third person?

Hm... I'm not sure there are any, tbh. There are barely any 3rd person shooters for Windows these days with the FPS market as dominant as it is. If you want 3rd person shooters, you're probably best off looking at console gaming. You can always try looking for some roms for oldies (more platformer-based games like Contra) and running them on xmame, though.

The only one i can come up with at the moment is Abuse (http://www.labyrinth.net.au/~trandor/abuse/). Look for it in Synaptic, or in a terminal:

sudo apt-get install abuse

I'm not sure if this is what you're looking for, but it's a fun game!

The only 3rd person shooter I have tried is Cold War. The full version costs but there is a 2 level demo which at least lets you see how it runs. It is very much in the style of Splinter Cell.

You're all linking fps first person games. :P Except like 2 of you. lol.

If you need a good example of what a third person shooter is: Contra (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contra_(arcade_game))

If you're wanting old school side scroller type stuff you could just get a snes or playstation emulator and play all those old games (only the ones you legally own of course).

I think some FPS allows you to switch between first and third person views. At least I remember Legends allowed me to do that (using the tab key). Pleasecorrect me if I'm wrong.
(TPS is the look of Tomb Raider, doesn't it?)

I stand by my suggestion of Cold War.

If you need a good example of what a third person shooter is: Contra (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Contra_(arcade_game))Ermmm...not to split hairs, but Contra is what's known as a platform game (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Platform_game), not a 3rd-person shooter.

In any case, if that's why you're looking for, as Shatrat said, grab some emulators...

sudo apt-get install zsnes
sudo apt-get install fceu

And search Google or the P2P networks for some roms. There are plenty of great "twitch" platformers out there for the NES and SNES.

Every other level of the nes version is a third person shooter. The wiki explains this, I didn't think I had to point out what the other half of the game is.

I like playing FPS too , zdoom for linux returns me in the past with doom2 , heretic and hexen series , playing some of my windows games under wine like half life and counter strike is sweet too (personally i removed all windows things from linux)
i would like to say that Sauerbraten amazed me with its gameplay : http://sauerbraten.org/
simple install - unarchive and your are done
