Doom3 Installation

I am running Hoary, an ASUS A7N8X moboard, 512 Ram, and an BFG 8600 vid card (really!!). I installed Doom 3 without apparent error...at the end of the installation I was prompted for my serial number (I have a legitimate version...) and then began to play. I saved a game/session after a few minutes then quite for the evening. Today when I attempt to start the game I just get a dark screen....I can hear a "click" like my monitor is changing resolutions then nothing...no problems playing UT2004. The only thing I can do to get out of this situation is to control-alt-backspace. Why? The game played fine and now this...have Googled and queried at Just Linux.com without resolve...any suggestions???

What resolution were you running the game and what is your desktop set at? Try matching your desktop res to what the game was set at and see if you can get it to start up.

I am running 1024 x 768,,,will try another resolution and let you know.
