If you mean a buddy icon, go to the Tools menu, then go to Accounts, click on each account and edit it's settings.
The buddy icon, if supported by the protocol, can be set there.

Hey, thanks both for your immediate replies! Im sorry i didnt eloborate my question. I mean how to enable my own display picture, you see, i only see my friends' display pictures.

I'm not sure what you mean still..
Are you meaning like how in MSN Mesesnger on Windows and Mac you can see your own picture displayed as well?
I think that in the interest of conserving screen realestate, the GAIM developers decided to only display remote images, not your own.
I could be wrong though. (I've never seen my own. I just set it and forget it.... much like the rotisserie except less food and more data)

I remember seeing my buddies pictures in gaim(1.1.2?) running warty but I don't now in hoary using gaim 1.1.4... the only place that even mentions 'buddy icons' is in tools>prefs>buddy list.... or do i just not get it??
i'm speaking of yahoo... i like mercury for msn.

You dont get it. He wants to see his own `a la amsn/msn. BTW, new gaim updates are still the same.

Enable a similar setting in Preferences > Conversations

I'm not positive and Professor Google doesn't seem to have an answer either...
Are any of your plugins causing a conflict maybe?

unless there is a problem with reconnect and icon tray plugins ... nobody online now so i'll check tomorrow.

I was also irritated not seeing my own display picture/name/status and I just added my self to the buddy list and voila, I'm on my list and can see my name/status and buddy image :)
