Thanx for the links. I love The GIMP and want to learn as much as I can but Ive tended to find that PS does things (drop shadows) a little easier than GIMP.
I have the lofty goal of starting up my music centered design company again using all open source/freeware apps. Im also trying Inkscape now.

i'm still a bit confused by the lack of a 'object management' tool, but eventually, it will replace my beloved corel

I never went for this because it was published in 2000. Alot has changed since then.

True, though I doubt that the basic functionality has changed .. and if I remember correctly the book has a lot of information about layer management. Doh .. layer management is the one thing that has changed a lot, hasnt it?

I was going to recommend APT'ing "gimp-manual" but that was last updated May '98. :)
Also a FYI. You can APT a HTML version of "Grokking the GIMP".
Its: sudo apt-get install grokking-the-gimp.
