To answer : AFAIK, most games that can only operate with DirectX fail to work with WINE (Games that support OpenGL or software rendering are A-OK.)

Since most new games in general, and *especially* fps games, use DX9 for all those swanky-looking visual eyecandy, you'll be lucky to find new FPS games that work in WINE.

(Hint : develop an RPG or RTS addiction instead :) )

Hmmm isnt Call of Duty a ww2 fps? I cant remember if it is or is not, but if it is what you are looking for you can look here (http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=3603) for the info. I assume if a full game works, a demo will work. To check out any games wine compatibility, look under the "app dbs" section of www.winehq.org. I'll also give you a link to the FPS games section, here. (http://appdb.winehq.org/appbrowse.php?catId=16) Looking at the games, a rating of Platinum, Gold, Silver, or bronze will probably mostly work. Anything with a rating of Garbage will not work. Good luck, post back if you have any problems.

What about the red orchestra mod for UT2004?

UT2004 runs natively on linux, I remember playing red orchestra years ago, I know they did a commercial release at some point, so I dont know if it is still just a mod. I also think its a WWI theme, but that should have the look and feel you want.

Ah yes - at last check, UT99, UT 2003 and UT 2004 all had native linux ports (god bless Epic.) Red Orchestra *is* WWII if i remember correctly - lots of Russian city maps (think Call Of Duty style, where most of the buildings are rubble.)

Call of Duty is a slightly older game (2002/2003 if memory serves) and a very good WWII FPS. I think many games from three years ago still supported OpenGL rendering, so anything from that time period or earlier should be good.

The site says they close shop a couple of years back they even went into chapter 11, news are very old? Are they still in business somehow?

Click HERE (http://liflg.org/?catid=6) is a link to loki installers for native linux games. MOHAA is one of them. There are also installers for non-native linux games.
