Have you gone to Edit > Plugins > iPod Support?
What format are those songs in? MP3? AAC?
Also, can you be more specific than "it doesn't work at all"? Does the iPod appear in Rhythmbox? Are you able to see the songs but not hear them when you try to play them? Do you get an error message when you try to play them? If so, what? Please, be as specific as possible.

it's not that rythmbox doesn't work it's just that it's only use is to listen to music, but i want to update my iPod and everything. My iPod runs with mp3 files by the way and no Rythmbox does not show my iPod when i plug it in even though it starts up whenever i plug it in. I have gtkpod now and it works just fine, but i want to know how i can convert CD songs so that i can upload it to my iPod, because my CD option doesn't come up either, or maybe it does but i don't know how it works...oh well...

If you want to rip your CDs to MP3 in Ubuntu, the best program for that is Grip. You can find it in the repositories.

go to systems> synaptic>
Synaptic is the interface for selecting what softare to install or uninstall. Look it up on the Ubuntu wiki or google.
Launch synaptic { sort of like add or remove software }
Go to Preferences> select enable on multiverse, and all repos ike universe, etc by clicking the check mark.
Update> Okay>
Do search for grip or mp3 or dvd and hit ENTER
select what you want and click install and APPLY.
This instruction could be better. Someone else please help.
