nexuiz graphics

Hello,
I just installed Nexuiz tonight. The file executes and you can play the game. However, the texturs are not present. Everything is made up of squares. I am running version 2.0 downloaded from the Ubuntu repositories. Can anyone help me make this game have proper graphics.
My hardware should work. I am running XGL compiz and Quake 2 works fine on my system.

I have the same problem , running 3dgames with XGL is a pain in the *** for me, it only works with regular gnome/KDE/whatever ;)
but I heared that some people did manage to get their games running with XGL.
