I would like to play quake 2 and LAN with people with windows computers. How would I do this? Quake 2 doesn't seem to be compatible with Ubuntu.

If you compilled the quake 2 engine yourself then you can't have punkbuster support. It should work out of the box if you use the Linux installer.

Quake2 never had punkbuster.

I installed it yesterday
Works great wiht Ubuntu
rename PAK0.PAK to pak0.pak
http://www.gameaholic.com/servers/quake2/
do:
apt-cache search quake
install quake 2 pacakges
and put your windows packages dans /home/user/.quake2/ .... bla bla
