I need help...with Ubuntu.
I'm trying to install drivers for my Geforce Fx 5200 graphics card. I downloaded drivers for linux from the Nvidia website,
NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-7174-pkg1.run
I then type 'sh' in the terminal to run the driver install, then my problem starts. The installer tells me that i have a 'X server' running and i need to turn it off. How do i turn 'X server' off?
If you reply and try to help me, please explain nice and simple. I'm new to Linux and Ubuntu. I'll be watching for answers, but untill then ](*,)
(i put this in the gameing section as i can't play games till this problem is fixed)

Just a quick question- why are you using Warty? I can give you my xorg.conf for Haory with the same card, but I can't help you with Warty.

Why am i useing warty? Because i got free with a magazine i bought, and i have not downloaded Hoary. I plan on downloading it sometime in the very near future. Also i am a newbie to linux, and therefore Ubuntu, so i have no real need or motivation for the newest version of anything as i can't use it properly anyway. Thats why i'm using Warty.

Oh, well. Whatever the reason, Warty was the first release and Nvidia support has improved greatly since then. If you try Hoary soon, PM me and I'll give you my xorg.conf to help you out.

Hi OuR_LanD,
The Ubuntu Guide (http://ubuntuguide.org/4.10/index.html) helped me out when I wanted to get drivers for my FX card working in Warty. Specifically, the procedure here (http://ubuntuguide.org/4.10/index.html#installnvidiadriver) worked like a charm for me. :-)
