I have registered a new guild on the EU Ravenholdt server. The name is Ubuntu Society.

Hopefully, players on other servers will use this concept to start new guilds there as well, but I am only playing on the Ravenholdt server. If you want to start a guild with this name, just let me know so I will create a forum category for your server and make you the admin.

Guild forum is at: http://www.ubuntusociety.org/WoW/

The concept of Ubuntu Society is helpfulness. "The helpful guild". As with the concept of Ubuntu itself, the idea is that by helping eachother we will all grow stronger. So if you are playing on the Ravenholdt server, whisper or mail "Buntu" (my character there) and I will invite you to the guild. All players are welcome (I am playing an orc hunter though, so I'm not sure if Alliance players are even able to join the same guild). All active members are also able to invite new players to the guild, enabling rapid growth. Players who are active on the forums and in-game should also be promoted rather quickly to be able to influence the guild. There will be no supreme ruler who decides everything for himself.

More info on the above forum/website. Happy hunting! :)

Alliance can not join horde guilds. You're going to run a guild and you don't know that? Usually guild leaders are EXPERTS on the game because newbies will be asking a lot of questions that leaders and officers are expected to know the answers to. At least, that's how I see it.

too bad, I just started playing wow again after a six month break. I started up on the eonar server though, because my old character is still there, and I have one real world friend on it. Oh well, I like the idea of linux guilds though. Its nice to see a guild that is in it to help out other players rather than to just level other players so they have more people for high level raids.

Good luck!!

I did. ;)
The reason I posted here as well is because I would like to hear some comments on the project, not only post the guild info.

As for above comments on being an expert and so on... I don't think you have to be an expert to help someone. And this is the purpose of the guild, to make sure that people who need help get it. It is also kind of a social experiment. If you're wondering, just take a look at the root website. And seriously, even though I've only been playing for a month, I know a heck of a lot more than some lvl 60 players. :-# But that wouldn't matter since, as I said, this is actually something more than just a guild.

thanks. :)
but as I said... nothing is stopping you from registering the Ubuntu Society guild on your server and act as the guild master there. Usually there are more players (and with different playing goals) on other servers (Ravenholdt is RP-PvP). So if you like the idea and have the extra time it takes, I would encourage you to start up. 8)
