Been playing ET under Linux for more than a year, it always bothered me my laggy mouse, the solution was to turn :
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "false"
on X configuration file, (i think is true by default) now my mouse behaves exactly as it does on windows.
When you have this feature turned on, the computer waits some milliseconds to recognize what your trying to do, this milliseconds are enough to make your mouse lag on X, not only on quake 3 engine games.
I posted here as reference because when I asked it here no one was able to answer me, and took me a year to get this simple solution.
Note: Lag applies only to buttons, not mouse movement.
