Whats better?WINE or cvscedega

Cvscedega is a big hassle while Wine is well documented.

And you should always try to stay open source when possible ;)

Wine, it's well documented. CVScedega isn't, infact if you look for help with it you'll most often get told "Why don't you just pay for Cedega?" or that wine is better for X application/game.

I use Wine personally. It just needs alittle tweaking here or there and the wine community is stronger than CVScedega.

Can't say Cedega doesn't need tweaking either. Most of the tweaking is with the wine configuration program, stuff you only have to do once. I tried Cedega once, and I find it to be just a big lie (your experience may differ). I tried to run Guild Wars, but it was totally unplayable. I tried Max Payne, but I couldn't use half of my keyboard buttons. I played KotoR, but the heads weren't showing (that's right), so I got bored. And they also claim to have support for Oblivion, while in fact, it runs horribly, and you need to get something called Oldblivion, and even then, it won't work too well.

Wine is Open Source, and if you need help, you get it. Many games work with it already, such as World of Warcraft, Counter Strike, Warcraft III, and many more. :)

Wine is good. CVSCedega is crippled cedega. The thing people are paying for with cedega is the interface. cvscedega is cedega without the interface so if you have no interface anyway, why not just go with wine? You'll get help and documentation. Try getting either with cvscedega.

i would have to say wine as it has given me the least problems in any distro i've used up to this point.

My brother and friend told me that cedega is better than wine when you want to play games, but now when my xorg crashed and I can't run cs with cedega anymore I'll move to wine because I need only Wolrd Of Warcraft and CS to be working :D

I can understand the anti-Cedega sentiment in these forums, since they don't really play by the Open Source/GPL rules, but for me Wine works better for some things, and Cedega (not CVS) works better for other things.

CVS Cedega looks like a bit of trouble to install and setup, but you'll probably learn something in the process. I suggest you try both of them.

I have never heard a positive response re. CVS Cedega?

Wine is well supported & improving all the time.

Cedega works a lot better than it used too, & is being improved all the time also.

I don't like the monthly payment routine with Cedega & would have prefered a once of payment. That said, it still only costs 3 x $5- (US) to legally be able to use it for ever.

Just a final point re. a previous post that could not get Guild Wars or anything much else to work with Cedega; I have been very happy with GW on Cedega for over a year now. It works a treat! :KS

It is also possible to play GW on Wine now too. There is a thread running currently about this.

the best way is to try them both : wine & cvscedega (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=193814) URL (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=193814)
sometimes one works when other fails

Wine is technically more advanced than Cedega, but Cedega puts more little hacks to get some stuff working. Honestly, just check the Wine AppDB (http://appdb.winehq.org) and see if your application works. If it does, use Wine and ignore the whole cvscedega hassle. If it doesn't work, well, chances are it won't with cvscedega either.

I used the paid version of Cedega for quite a while and never was able to play what I wanted to. I started using Wine and just about everything I want to play I can with Wine or DosBox, but thats another story. All in all Wine is much better than cvxcedega.
