athlon64 packages

hey, are there as many packages compiled for amd64 as there are for i386 in the repositories? also, can i386 packages be used in an amd64 install without any special configuration (i heard of chroot or something but not entirely sure) and with the same stability and compatability as in a pure i386 install? i'd like to take advantage of my full 64 bits :) but not if it can be problematic or time consuming to set up properly.. thanks for your help.

3rd party stuff might not be readily available. Installing a 64 bit Ubuntu with a 32 bit chroot is pretty easy. There's a howto in the tips and tricks forum.
