Hi, i just installed frostwire, and when i try to open it using the launcher shortcut nothing happens. When i type frostwire in terminal this is what i get:

jared@jareds:~$ frostwire
runFrost.sh: 44: Syntax error: "(" unexpected (expecting "}")
jared@jareds:~$

Is there any way to fix this?

I'm using Limewire and compile the rpm to deb.
To download click here (http://momupload.com/files/1606/limewire-free_4.12.6-1_i386.deb.html)

It works great. And don't forget to install jre. Search it synaptic like Java. You need to download j2re 1.x.x or if you want mozilla plugin too.

I'm new to Ubuntu, and am loving it so far. I have 6.06 LTS installed, and have installed (or is that "tried to install"?) Frostwire. The icon in the menu is a generic icon, and when I click on it, nothing happens. I have installed Java (twice) and re-installed Frostwire at least 3 times. Also, when I try to start Frostwire from the terminal, it seems that it can't find the Java. What am I doing wrong? Aside from sitting in front of the computer...

You installed blackdown Java, not the others right? out of add/remove programs?

No...I installed Sun Java. Was that wrong?

I don't know if it was wrong, but I've never gotten it to work with anything else, but Blackdown Java.

I installed Blackdown, and still can't start Frostwire. Do I need to restart the comp, or re-install Frostwire maybe? I feel like a total noob here. And I'm the guy people come to for their windows trouble...how humbling. ;)

Hmm... Try a restart, and no question is noobish.

This is most frustrating. It's STILL not working, and I have everything installed the way it's supposed to be (I think). I am SO lost here.](*,)

I think I remember something about having to switch bash to sh or something let me look it up real quick...

I also just noticed that Frostwire doesn't even appear under my Add/Remove Applications. Curiouser and curiouser.

sudo update-alternatives --config java
and use sun 1.5.0 as default.

if this still doesn't work, start frostwire from a terminal (just type frostwire then enter) and paste the output!

Well, I have only a vague idea what you just had me do, but it worked! You are my personal hero for the day...heck...make it the week. I really, REALLY appreciate the help.

Just in case, as many have had this problem with fresh installations of FW:

Just in case. ;)

I was experiencing the same problem. It had to do with the path. running from the terminal will gave me an error message, that the compiler it found was outdated or something, until i removed some java pkgs not related to sun..
