Its not done yet but they are making a FFVII engine for linux (and windows) called Q-Gears
a quote form the site
So I can download q-gears and play Final Fantasy 7 without buying the game?
No. The goal of Q-gears is to make a drop-in replacement for the Final Fantasy 7 executable. The main idea is to use only data supplied by Square. (This means you *MUST* have the original media to play the game).
Ive only just read about this so I may have jumped the gun a little but if this project means I can play FF7 on linux Im set for life when it comes to gaming on linux. Now to find out whether or not it will work if I go and find a copy of ff7 for the PC.
http://q-gears.sourceforge.net/
edit: maybe I did jump the gun a little, I cant see anything which says its free so maybe I was wrong there. Though you can download it for free so maybe I was right after all?
