Hey there guys.

I think we need to have an intro meeting. Although I haven't been around for very long, one thing I've noticed is that there are very few people on the team, even less taking part, and I'm assuming that nobody knows who anyone is (except for maybe the odd one or two people).

So, there will be a meeting on IRC on Monday, 15th January 2007 from 8pm till 10pm. I made it for the evening to accomodate those who have to work and can't IRC from work. Please invite and encourage as many people as you can to be there. Newcomers are a must!

Other than getting to know eachother and form some sort of cohesive bond, let's also get some suggestions on what can be discussed. Please try keep the suggestions relatively on-point (as good topics of an intro meeting). The more technical, planning, and initiating can be done at a later stage. Let's just try get the team acting like a team.

Hope to see you all there.

IRC Server: irc.freenode.net
IRC Channel: #ubuntu-za

EDIT: Okay, we are going to have a meeting a little bit earlier. There will be a meeting on Thursday, 7th December 2006 at 8pm. By the looks of things we will still be having the meeting in January, so check back for more updates.

I'm not really sure if I should be editing the wiki agenda page so I'll just post what I think is relevant here and the powers that be can decide whether or not it gets discussed at the meeting tonight.

I would like to bring up the recent decision to drop PPC as a fully supported platform.

It was brought up here (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPCReview), discussed by PPC users here (http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=298746) and decided upon here (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MeetingLogs/Technical-2006-12-05).

My initial reaction to this was to simply switch to Debian and not that I have ruled this out I have to admit that I would like to see what I can do to help support the PPC distro.

I'm guessing there are probably few South African's using PPC to run their Ubuntu but nonetheless it might be an interesting topic. I have a lot of concerns about this but I leave this discussion for another time.

well, being that this is our first meeting, topics will vary quite a bit. the purpose of this meeting is mainly introductory, but if we run out of stuff to talk about, im sure no one will mind if we had a discussion about it. alternatively, we could hold a seperate irc meeting specifically for this topic.

lets see how tonight goes, and if you still want to discuss this further, just start a new thread, with the date and time of the meeting you want to hold, and i will surely sticky it. if you decide to do this, also remember to email the details of the meeting to the mailinglist.

Well, we had our first meeting last night. For those who missed it, not to worry, theres another January meeting. Basically, most of the meeting revolved around craigaa explaining what a locoteam is and what our goals should be. some other objectives were also suggested by other team members.

he also asked for people to step in on some of the different areas in which need work. quite a lot of people volunteered, which was quite nice.

thats pretty much all we got up to, as it was just an intro meeting. if someone took logs of the meeting, i will be sure to post it up a link to them here.

hope to see you all at the next meeting. ;)
