Has anybody else seen the web based operating system youos?
A demonstration of it is available here:-
http://www.youos.com/html/index.html?mode=demo
I understand it is written in java, but in action it looks very like linux with bash commands in the terminal, and simple wordprocessor, etc available. Not had time to think of all the implications yet. Interesting, I thought and possibly useful for people on the move, who could use it to write and store docs, backpackers for example, without any need to lug a laptop around but use internet cafes instead. Any thoughts anyone?

Interesting, I think I've seen this done in the past but can't recall how simulate it was to this. This is a full fledge desktop and looks like it could be very useful for people that use different computers often, students could really benefit from something like this.

Werewolf-1.1, a web browser in a web browser? :p

You may be thinking of this one - http://desktoptwo.com/ - which is far sexier imho.
You have 1Gb of diskspace, and share you files with other DesktopTwo users.

goowy is another one. this one is probably more well known.

and xindesk is probably the best looking

Xindesk Xin Ajax Desktop Framework (http://www.xindesk.com/)

and eyeos is another one

eyeOS Home | Web desktop - Web OS - Web office - your data and applications everywhere (http://eyeos.org/)

I used eyeOS now and again. It's nice for lists and things that I need between home and work, but 'net lag made it a little cumbersome. That's not their fault. It's just the nature of the technology.

Desktoptwo has openoffice. I wonder how they do this?
