My one and only printer runs on a Win 95 machine. (That machine started out with Win 3.11 then moved to Chicago Beta then settled on the first release of Win 95. Still chugging along on that 1st edition release. It's gone through two mobo upgrades and now has a Celeron 400.)

Also on the network is a plain old Pentium 166 running NT4 server and serves up some ASP pages.

Not on the network is a Mac Quadra 610 (25MHZ 68040) running system 7.5. Still boots and runs.

Dapper runs exclusively on an AMD 64 X2 machine.

I know it's not what you're asking, but the old operating systems I'm running are:
-Atari 400 and 800
-Atari ST and Falcon

I also have a 10Mhz 286 with DOS 3.30, but I never turn that one on. :-)

Oldest one I have is a 386SX dual-booting MS-DOS 6.22 and Debian "Woody". I still turn it on sometimes, just for the fun of it (always a good thing to have an extra machine to play Duke Nukem 3D on LAN). I also tried to compile a kernel on it, just to see how much time it would take (took four days and a few hours :p).

Windows XP is the oldest one I have now. :)

Before I used Linux I used to run Windows ME on the computer I'm using right now, but that's long gone. And I don't miss it. :D

My little-brothers computer is running Windows 98SE. It had Arch linux before but he wanted to play some old Dos games, and quite frankly, not that many emulators run greatly on 350mhz pentium 2's :D

I'm running Mac OS 9, but that's not really terribly old.

Out of curiosity, do you have a real use for those ones?

I use the win3.1, with a copy of Office 3 to print documents from time to time on an old printer a guy donated for the cubscout troop we are in, but the ibm 5150 is pretty much for museum interest. My son and I have played games on the ibm. A couple of very fun ones. A championship pool game which has surpisingly accurate physics. I also used the win3.1 computer to get a working 5-1/4" floppy drive to make disks for the ibm.

The oldest OS I have is Windows 3.1(I think) running on an old crappy off-brand laptop that runs every now and then. It boots but not very offtend. I can't really do anything with it so I have been trying to think of a creative way to destroy it. Who would want to use windows 3.1? I think DOS would be easier. Linux terminals get the job done faster than that thing.

I currently have.

Two 386 Touch computers that were originally designed to run security systems. They still run the same DOS applications they had way back then. No Internet abilities unless I hook in a 2800 baud modem (Modem was designed to send/receive text documents only) Both systems still running.

3 486 Touch computers also originally designed to run security systems. One of them fried, but the other 2 still work today. These however run a very old build of the Linux Kernel (version unknown) I never checked. They both have an internal 2320 Kbps modem. They have no graphical desktops because of the current 1 mb video card. They can both be set on turbo mode. They switch from 3 speeds.
First: 33 Mhz
Second: 66 Mhz
Third: 103 Mhz
All by the press of a button on the front of the case located right next to the power button.

The only strange thing is that those 3 486 computes could be combined to share memory processor usage. (As they are all in one large case). The 2 that are still going are currently doing fine and still able to run them as a router.

These computers were originally owned by ADT Security systems.

I have a p100 working as an internet router/firewall it has 64mb (sometimes it boots with 32mb, a simm gets loose i guess) running openbsd 3.5 just fine. In the same place i used to have a 486 (the parts still work). This machine used to have debian many years ago, i has a 1mb pci vga card. There is absolutely nothing wrong with running X with it, i don't because i don't need it, but back when i used debian potato i did. In fact 1mb is plenty, with the 486 i used an old ttl hgc monochrome card, just for fun i did made X work, it was a little troublesome to get the monochrome ttl monitor frequencies from the net, but it worked just fine, and then you couple your apps with nice athena looks :)

I do have many old parts lying around, starting from huge full size DTK 10Mhz 286 board (fits the entire desktop case) many smaller 386sx (some got damaged by leaking NiCD batteries i should have ripped away) Old HDs including an 80mb IDE Seagate which still works perfectly. They could be assembled and put to use with Dos just fine, and we have the nice FreeDOS alternative for that ;) Many abandonware sites have plenty of games and old apps for those. You could plug a nic and have internet, with text browser and email client. I have seen much better systems get thrown away, it is a pity.

I used OS/2 Warp, versions 3 and 4, from 1994 through 2000. They were the most stable, easy to maintain systems. The only reason I'm not running them now is that IBM stopped providing free access to all updates and drivers. OS/2 was light years ahead of Windows 95, and technologically superior to Windows NT 4. It was more stable and ran DOS, Windows 3.1, and OS/2 programs better than Windows NT. The OS/2 UI is still superior to most current UI implementations.

The older versions would be severly limited by today's standards. However, if you want to resurrect an older pentium 1, OS/2 would be an excellent choice and copies are always on ebay. Look for OS/2 Warp Connect if you are interested.
