I am a Ubuntu/Windows dual booter, and i ma just curious if Deluge will also work in Windows. If it is possible, could someone elaborate? If not, feel free to smack be in th back of the head.

Probably not. But you could use it in Linux in a VMware player of Ubuntu in windows. (if you follow ;))

Not at the moment, but in the future, I plan on it.

The main problem will be building the library on Windows, after that, the client is written in python, so the code is fairly portable

What zachtib said, only the backend, libtorrent, needs to be ported to Windows. Deluge itself could with it's python code be used in Windows.
The only thing to do is switch all the gtk stuff from Deluge to wxwidget and then wait for libtorrent (ok, it's almost that simple. There will be some problems, but I don't think there will be many of them).

actually, both libtorrent (the C++ library) and gtk (and by extension, pygtk) already work on windows. The only thing we need to do to port it is build python-libtorrent (our Python wrapper class for the C++ library) on the target system.

Of course, there will be some minor change in the python code as well, such as removing dbus support, but other than that, it should be a fairly simple job.

I'm actually thinking of doing a Mac port first, as its still a UNIX environment, so it should be a little easier

this is good news for everyone...it *could* speed up the development by reaching out to a larger user base. I look forward to using Deluge in windows!(someday)

Watch out uTorrent!

funny you should say that because my windows friend the other day was getting tired of trying to get azureus working and saw my client (Deluge .3) and wanted it. I said sorry but it's linux only. and sent her to the bitcomet website.

Now that Bittorrent has taken over µtorrent http://forum.utorrent.com/viewtopic.php?id=17279, there might actually be a chance that Deluge could get popular on windows.
A help to compile libtorrent on windwos maybe this windows torrent client, named "Halite" http://www.binarynotions.com/halite.php will be of some help. (I'm not a programmer so I do not know)

yeah, the second I heard the news, I fired up VMWare and started grabbing python and GTK+ win32 builds.

I won't trust uTorrent now that BT Inc got their hands on it

does utorrent autoupdate or something? because as long as you dont use the most recent version that has bt inc stuff in it, one thinks that you should be fine (unless it autoupdates to the latest version)

anyway good luck with deluge on windows!

It does auto-update, but you can turn it off in the preferences.
