Mushed Mango

I have an old iMac G3 Powerpc. With all the versions of Ubuntu I've tried, the side (maybe bottom?) edges are hanging off the edge, and I can't see them unless I take a screenshot and look at that. (As you can imagine, not very practical.)
The screen resolution section has been no help as it only gives the resolution options, with no orientation as it does on OS X. As many of you in this section will no, this model doesn't have adjustment switches. Can someone help?
PS: I am new to linux, and don't know much about it. I tried posting this in the Absolute Beginners section, but maybe the people here have had the same difficulties.
