Hey! Another convert to the linux scene...well almost. I have an iBook too, haven't installed linux on it, yet.
1. No this will not void your warranty, you can use your ibook anyway you want, it's when you take a screw driver to it that you cross over to grey area.
2. Yes, you can dual boot. But, it does take some messing around, especially since you will need to reinstall Mac OS X. You will need to partition your hard drive for use with linux and mac os x, also another one for swap. Then you will need to install linux, and then reinstall mac os x. You need to do this because there is no way to resize an HFS partition with erasing all the data. (If there is I'd like to know about it please). Unless you have unpartitioned space on your disk, then you're fine. Unfortunatly, I don't.
3. Yes, it does have a nice clean interface. It uses a window manager called "Gnome", check out gnome.org for some info.
4. This particular disrto (distribution) is fairly light, as in, it's not packed down with a lot of excess stuff, but it doesn't mean that you can't get it very easily. Use synaptic to get as much stuff as you want. It's a graphical tool for apt-get which manages and get debian packages from on-line sources.
5. Yes it will work on your iBook. Read some posts on this forum. You should also be able to find some how-tos to help you along.
6. How to say it...hmmm....no idea...
I really recommend messing around with linux, it really keeps my interest in computers alive and well. There is so much information out there about it, and it has the most dedicated users who keep adding to it. Also, you can get almost every kind of software you need for free, open source.
Hope that answers some questions.
