I've just installed xubuntu 1.10 from the desktop CD, and so far it runs great apart from 2 niggles.
The first is that I have to boot using recovery mode each time, or my monitor loses the signal. This is no biggie as my display works peachy once booted. Of course I would like to fix this if possible, but this is not the topic of this thread.
The second issue is that the default user is root, and there is no password. I can't access the user manager (says no permission) and if I switch users from the terminal (before x is loaded), it says I have no permissions to startx.
I've read a couple of threads, the most promising said that I had to chown the home dir of the user in question, but this hasn't worked.
Has anyone else had this problem?
