Why when I go to use a program I installed (this only seems to happen with Firefox) a picture of a removable drive (the same kind you get when you plug in your flash drive) comes up on the desktop only it has the Firefox icon on it? Does Macintosh think Firefox is a removable drive or something?

This is probably a stupid question but we just got an iMac yesterday and I've never used OSX outside of school where they have everything locked down.

Never mind, i fixed it myself.

Turns out I had the Firefox shortcut on my dock running from the dmg file and not the extracted Firefox file.

Actually how did you change firefox from opening from the .dmg file to opening normally from the applications menu? The reason I am asking is I use a Mac at work.

Yeah it seems like you've figured it out. Just remember for next time, installing apps is very easy:

1. Mount the virtual disk

2. Drag the icon to your Applications folder :)

Just download (or re download) Firefox and drag the file to Applications. After that delete any of your old FF files. Is how I think I did it last night. I didn't loose any of my Firefox data doing this.
