VI Issues

Hi I'm having troubles with VI on a Edgy server, It won't let me use shortcuts like i for insert etc. Most frustrating. Should I uninstall & reinstall? I know a lot of you will say use other editors but I often am on AIX boxes etc & it's easier for me to use (old habits die hard)

BTW This is a Edgy/Kubuntu server.

Old habits do die hard. I have yet to figure it out either. I do not use other programs. Blah! Well I going to use my google certification.
