Doom 3 on Hoary

I upgraded to Hoary from Warty last evening without any seeming issues....the upgrade went well and I have yet to find any major problems...until today!! I went to play Doom 3 and got nothing. By this I mean that I select my Doom 3 icon from the menu bar, see the light on the HD begin to flicker, hear my monitor "click" as if it is changing resolutions (as normal) and then nothing - just a blank, black screen that looks slightly illuminated. I tried UT 2004 and it came up fine but with no sound. Sound works, however for radio and cds (trying to check every potential avenue). I have Googled without success. I would appreciate it if someone would perhaps give me some direction as to where to look (perhaps some log files??) in an effort to troubleshoot this issue....I am nearly out of Hell and want to continue to the next level!!!

run 'killall esd' before running the game and see if that fixes the problem. It should fix Doom and UT.
