Yellow Dog Linux is rallying their PPC Linux users and all PPC Linux users should join to ask Adobe to make Flash for all distros of PPC Linuxes.:KS

Here is their message now:

URGENT: Kai Staats on Flash Player 9 for YDL 5.0 — Adobe needs to hear from you NOW!

Flash Player 9 Beta is now available for Linux, but not for the Power architecture. Fortunately, Adobe offers a 'feature request' form. I ask each and every one of you to submit your request for Flash for Yellow Dog Linux in order to showcase the strength of our user base with enthusiasm for the forthcoming Sony PlayStation 3 and Yellow Dog Linux.

Sounds like a plan. I hate having to use MOL to surf flash-based sites and videos.

Any word on the status of this?

I emailed Adobe, but - huge shock - no reply.

Flash does run on the ppc architecture, does it? The only ppc architecture I saw was the PS3, and on its native OS, flash run ok..

So, it shouldn't be such a big deal to port to ppc Linux!

That's a good point, yes, it does have Flash on the PS3 browser! So how did they get it yet no one else has it for PPC???

This is the blog of the Adobe developer who makes the Linux releases. He is very hostile and angry towards anything but x86, unfortunately. :(
You can read lots of comments from his blog posts where people want powerpc and x86_64 flash for Linux, but the developers dismiss their comments, saying it is "too hard," and 64bit is not a viable platform right now, etc. Pretty sad.

And concerning PS3 browser flash: Adobe flash sdk is available to different companies at a price. Sony (PS3 browser), Nintendo (Wii browser), small embedded devices, and others pay to have flash made for those devices. See this page:

http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer_sdk/

Notice the line at the bottom:

If you are interested in porting Flash Player to your consumer electronics device or embedded platform, please fill out the License Request Form.

So that is how they have working flash.

Wow, that sucks, a lot.

But thanks for the info, I was wondering what the deal was.

Man, someone higher up at Adobe needs to realize that if you make a product that is so heavily used, the least you could do is make it accessible to everyone. Geesh.
