Hi all,

I'm looking for a FREE (no cost), SINGLE player, free-roam game that is Linux NATIVE (no WINE etc), and allows for.. well.. free-roam / exploration / random levels / whatever, without forcing me into a linear storyline / gameplay. Can be RPG / FPS / whatever. Does anyone know of any??

Thanks in advanced.

Nethack and it's derivatives. There are tons of them, free, single player, etc.

Seconded. Start with any of the modern major roguelikes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roguelike#Major_roguelikes). (I am the very model of a...?)

ADOM is my favorite, with TOME and Linley's tied for second.

Have you had a look at Second Life?

It's probably not the sort of game you have in mind, but it's amazing what people have organised in-game.

Thirded. I installed Nethack on my PC at work and go no work done today...
No flashy graphics but great gameplay and a game where the devs have thought of everything!

Fourthed! (Is that a word?) Nethack is an incredible game, very steep initial learning curve, but its well worth it. Be warned though, it is very, very addictive. And also very hard, I've played it on and off for five years now and only completed it for the first time last year!
