I'm looking for sugegstions for software that's equivalent to the following Mac shareware ... MacJournal (a notebook/journal), personal finance software like Checkbook, and a good/robust CSS editor.
I'm also tryin to get Nvu loaded so that, if I went the full Linux route on a new PC laptop, I wouldn't need Codeweaver to run Dreamweaver.
Thoughts?

Just suggestions, but I'm a poor choice since I don't do many of those things via computer. How can I be a proper nerd without doing all this on a computer? :-\"
Drivel is a GNOME LiveJournal client. Haven't tried it; not a LiveJournal person.
GnuCash is a Free accounting software package.
I'm not fond of NVu myself, but give it a shot. It produces ugly HTML. Make sure to run it through Tidy. I've never tried its' builtin CSS editor (supposedly limited to font and border settings), and I've not tried installing NVu on my Ubuntu box yet, but I've run it on vanilla Debian, and it's a Linspire product, which should be a good sign.
Call me crazy, but I edit my CSS (the few times I have) in a text editor.

I have not used Mac Journal, so I am not exactly sure what it is you want the program to do. However, I can tell you what I have done on my ubuntu install. I added PHP, MySql, and Apache and then installed WordPress. The advantage to this is that I can make entries right on the ubuntu machine, or with the help of the dyndns webhop service, I can set a redirect to my dynamic IP and log in to WordPress over the internet from any computer. If you are comfortable with CSS, you should be able to make a really nice WordPress install.
In case you are not familiar with WordPress, this is my WordPress powered blog. http://s94698184.onlinehome.us/carnage2/index.php
As for CSS, I do all of mine in text editors as well.

MacJournal is like Keynote (there are several projects of this name) was for windows. It's a text editor with a navigation pane on the left side where you can create new folders (Journals) or text files (Journal Entries).
It's nice. I didn't even know it did any blogging stuff. Keynote was likewise nice. I'm searching for the same answer you are.
