Hello all,

I am desperatly trying to get Wolfenstein to work. I am using Xubuntu 6.10 as it says in my profile in the top corner of this post. But everytime I try to startup ET it changes the resolution to some really low that goes way off the screen and what not. I check the console and here are the logs it puts out.

I am assuming this has to do with some graphics issue again. This doesnt really make sense though because ET works without any problems in PCLOS and MEPIS. Any ideas on a fix? My graphics card is a nVidia GeForce 6500 256MB VRAM, as far as I know its fully supported by ubuntu, and has been since v5.10.

Thanks!

Okay, I just found the nVidia X.Org binary driver package in synaptic but I still get a ton of errors when trying to start ET. I think it may have made it worse.

You need to edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and add:

Load "glx"

under

Section "Module"

My xorg.conf file in Section "Module" reads this:

Section "Module"
Load "i2c"
Load "bitmap"
Load "ddc"
Load "dri"
Load "extmod"
Load "freetype"
Load "glx"
Load "int10"
Load "type1"
Load "vbe"
EndSection

So its already being loaded. :/

That's why I run the DOS version with DOSbox. :p

Explanation of problem:

Edgy enables the Xorg Composite extension by default. The legacy nvidia drivers require you to either explicitly allow GLX to run with Composite, or to disable Composite entirely.

Solutions:

1. Explicitly allow GLX while using the Composite, or disable Composite. If you do this, you should be sure to enable RenderAccel as well:

Section "Device"
Identifier "NVIDIA Card"
Driver "nvidia"
BusID "PCI:1:0:0"
Option "RenderAccel" "true"
Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "true"
EndSection

Or,

2. Disable Composite. GLX will start working.

Section "Extensions"
Option "Composite" "Disable"
EndSection
