I'm new to Linux, trying to get some very old PC games running in Ubuntu.

I've tried using Wine, with no success.

I don't know anything about why Wine would work on current Windows exe's, but not old ones.

Would someone point me in the right direction?

You may want to try doing a search at WineHQ http://appdb.winehq.org/. Sometimes there's a HOWTO guide on game installation and various fixes.

If "very old" means "from the 1980's", you could try DOSBox (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/). It's slow, but very compatible. It does a better job with DOS games than Wine or even Windows XP.

Great! Thanks, both of you.
