I use Dapper x64 and was wondering if anyone has Cedega working with it? I dont really play new games, infact the newest pc game i play is from 2001 (use my xbox for games), and i realise i could use wine. However i like to the look of Cedegas GUI and installed games list.

I just wanted to know before i go and subscribe to Cedega for the newest versions, if anyone has had major issues installing it and running games on it. If it doesnt work i could always drop down to use the 32bit Dapper, but id much sooner use the 64bit edition and take full advantage of the CPU.

Thanks in advance.

You won't notice a difference in speed going to 32bit from 64bit OS.

You will find a lot of things easier to do in 32bit Ubuntu, especially with gaming. There are next to no 64bit games out yet (UT2k4 is the only one I know of.)

Getting both Cedega & Wine working under 64bit is challenging for most of us.

Cedega doesn't really support ALL the games that it says it does.

There is an older Cedega_demo version available here (http://linux.softpedia.com/get/GAMES-ENTERTAINMENT/Simulation/Cedega-9843.shtml).

I strongly recomend that you try the games you want to run on the demo first. Especially if they are older games.

Until only a few months a go Guild Wars ran best on a much older version than that of the demo this page is linked to.

All the best! :)

Thanks for the fast reply.

I know the games i play work ok in cedega 5.0 as that was the last version i had. However since then ive misplaced my CD i had it backed up on and have changed systems. Im sure if i subscribe again i can get older versions, or even find it by other means if needed.

I didnt realise there would be no speed differance between the 32bit and 64bit editions. I just assumed that naturally as i have a 64bit CPU the 64bit edition of Ubuntu would run far better on my system. I think i'll move down to the 32bit edition of dapper and make life alittle easier for myself then.

Thanks again for the info, much appreciated :-D

There are heavy duty math's intensive applications, & perhaps the handling of very large files where 64bit is a big advantage.

Very few of us use those kinds of applications.

You will miss out on some headaches as a gamer who uses 32bit! :KS

The Demo is Version 5.1.3
