hello, im new to linux..

i have read the FAQ but i cant seem to find how to set the repositories to install new software..

a friend told me that i have to set the repositories over internet to update my install, is this right??

how can i do this??

can i do a local repository, mainly because at home i have a 56k phone connection and at work i have a t1 connection...

i hope this is in the right forum and please... i can use any help..

2. Applications > System > Synaptic Package Manager > Search > whatever.application > right click > install.
