Note that the number of required characters changes from 17,145 to 18,770 with the installation of SP1.

Good to know there's progress being made in the Microsoft headquaters. :)

You know that would take a minimum of about 1.5 hours to type in! thats with 3-4 chars a second (about how fast i can type my passwords i think) I think my fingers would get sore soon though lol.

At least running Windows you wouldn't be prompted by sudo to do the marathon type all over again...

Shoot. It probably is more appropriate in Windows discussion...

Well, whatever. If you want to move it back to Windows, I fully support you in that.

Well, we now know for certain that Microsoft is taking their security focus seriously. A weak password is one of the most common ways a computer is broken into, so it makes sense to try to block that attack vector.

I'm more security-concious than most users, so my passwords are around 25,000 characters long. It always shocks me when security studies show that the average user still has a password under 15,000 characters, especially with rainbow tables growing so quickly in popularity.

Kudos to Microsoft for making this tough decision. Not many companies would be willing to subject their customers to a mild inconvenience like this, even when it's essential for proper security.
