My room is a little hot and my windows have really crappy frames (House windows) So I set my AC Window unit on a chair frame which doesn't have a seat with a large rubbermade bucket underneath to catch any water drippage to cool myself and my computer, my question is, why don't more people put their window units inside their house?

Because it's counter-productive (AC units pump heat in a certain direction, usually outside to the rear. Doing so in a closed area is simply inefficient ;)

Yeah I was thinking about it for a second and came to the the same conclusion in my mind. My further experimentation with a hand to the back of the AC confirmed these fears. But hey, atleast I got some cold air blowing on me. I swear this is the hottest day we have had in a while, it is not easy to use a computer (Let alone one with Linux) While I am roasting my kahoonies off.

Yeah, I hear ya. Recently I have been doing work (or more like wasting time) on the iBook because me P4 desktop heats up the room so much!

As long as the human's cool, efficiency doesn't really matter ;)

As for PC heat... tell me about it. Once I closed the door to my computer room (1 P4, 1 A64), and when I got back it was 85 degrees (the rest of the house was 70)

When I go off to college, I'll have to get myself a Mini Mac :)

Hey, keep it ghetto, just remember to sit in front of the unit and not behind. I believe there is some ghetto rule of thumb that you can not be efficient and ghetto at the same time.

It's best to mount it on the window frame (ln -s /dev/ac /mnt/window) so that you can get fresh air drawn in instead of recycling stagnant air which, if conditions are right, can lead to a build-up of carbon monoxide or carbon dioxide (or even radon).

:( Didn't know all of that, let's just pray tomorrow isn't 90 degree's. I swear just 2 days ago it was down in the 40/50's. Now it is 90?!?! I had to set-up my AC like this on short notice because my window frames need to get fixed before I can mount it in this room.

Gave me a REALLY funny image in my head of a guy without a shirt on with a huge box house fan duct taped to his back with a few cinderblocks in between, a Heatsink!

With your course load will you be able to maintain Backports?

Bob

p.s. Sorry for hijacking a thread, but since it's in Chat I don't feel quite as bad

Oh, we'll always find time for Backports :)

Backports, no doubt, will always exist-- if jdong ever lost interest (heaven forbid-- he's done one heck of a job) someone would take over.

Yeah, my room heats up really fast. I have to regulate that but opening a windows, but then it gets to cold so i close it. I cannot seem to find a balence. Also, if I turn on my PC, It heats up my room. If I turn on music/xbox, it heats my room. If I turn on any electronics, it heats my room. I guess there is no way to keep the temperature constant.

That's ghetto? I don't have an AC window unit at all. I propped my windows open with a wooden stick and duct taped a box fan propeller to the back of my Power Supply. I guess I'm more redneck than anything else. And yes, I keep my can of Skoal in the CD-ROM drive.

You a wintergreen man?

Nope. Skoal straight long cut. However, I do like to mix it in every now and then with a swig of cherry flavored cough suppresant for a little extra kick and flavor.

Are you a top lipper? The mint brands give you a pretty good kick there, kind of like sniffin' some table salt. Good stuff...

Yes, sir. It is. If you think that's disgusting, you should see what's collecting inside my belly button.

By the way, back on topic (I think), putting your AC unit on the window seal has many applications. I keep my dog's water bowl underneath the drip so I don't have to go outside at all. He chews on grass for nurishment.

*L* This is getting more and more delightfully white trash by the moment.

actually, i used to dip wintergreen lower lip. I occasionally used packets. Yeah I know, they are dip training wheels. They are so clean and you can hide them in the upper back part of your jaw though. I dipped apple blend once, it kicked my ***. I was layed out on the floor for like 10 minutes ready to vomit. I quit cold turkey after that. (Is it quiting cold turkey if you double cigarette intake to make up for lost nicotine?)

The occasional Levi Garrett is nice though.

Hot damn, man. I think I swallowed a few moist chunks of worm dirt laughing at that reply of yours. Cold turkey just don't work, does it brother. I had it so bad once, I found myself digging through sand in those round ash trays cans for used cigarette buds. I really don't get much a buzz these days except when bet to stuff a whole can full of it in my mouth. That's a tuff 20 though...

I'll pm you what I use to call those mint 'training wheel' packets.
