Loved this in OSX, just found out you can do it in Ubuntu as well:

Select the text you would like to save in a web page, and drag it onto the desktop (or open nautilus window) to automatically create a new text file with the selected text inside.

I use this all the time, thought I'd share :)

Better still, In Opera rightlick selected text an click 'copy to notes' .
To access simply press F4 to get to the notes panel!
Firefox has a similar extension.

Similarly you can drag & drop the newly created file or whatever text file in a text editor.

AFAIK this feature was intruduced (invented ?) with Mac OS System 7.5 (11 years ago !)
