My dream of next generation of Gnome and Ubuntu

Gnome 2 has past 6 version. But many tools is not updates in new release.
I dream a more powerful ,flexible Gnome.
1,More friendly for Home poeple.
gnome-utils(gnome-screentshot add time-delay , image cut.gnome-search join nautilus....)

gnome-menu ,edit directly,move it's place by D&D,custom the menu item order.

bookmark managenet eg.right click a file ("Add to Bookmark"),share bookmark with firefox, open bookmark anywhere(right click the desktop).

System optimize gui tool.Clean /tmp directory. clear unused locale file. bakup file .Provide wizard for kernel,ide,network optimizition(low level, more costum function for administrator).

Gnome theme can preview and download directly from internet(art.gnome.org),and costume edit the gnome style .Gnome theme removal.

Gnome upgrade detect tool,upgrade to new version,install new configuration file for user and import old configuration, and backup or remove old verion configuration.(like Ximian doorman)

Multimedia must be enhanced.
Why not a gnome media center instead of current gnome-cd(it is too old and can not work well on my computer),totem,rhymbox,ect. It can based on totem-xine ,add nautilus file browser for browse media file and media management, add nautilus cd burner for cd burning, add photo album creation .

Some system tools must be enhanced.
Disk management (intergrated gparted and hal device manager)
Network configuration and monitor(for phone,xdsl ,wireless ,lan ,ect ,more function like time counter or fee counter )
Printer configuration and monitor(printer status, monitor paper and ink )
More powerful PIM management
System service enable and disable directly.


2,For Developer.
Why not gnome developer suite or Gnome Developer Studio.
Include:
anjutu
devhelp
gui designer
support c,c++,java ,python,perl
debian package gui tool
cvs ,ftp, subversion

3.For adminitrator and Business.
Business software testing and support (sun jdk,oracle db &as ,bea wls,ibm was).
Profile tool
Network trace and monitor.
Data backup and recovery.
Batch installation and system costumzition.
Cron gui tool for schedule job
More friendly log viewer tool
Run level editor for costum shell cmd.

I like those ideas. Some are possible now. Others aren't. I cant wait for gtk3 and gnome 3 to be out. By then theming will be easier to develop and more customizable. :smile:

That's one guy's idea of how GNOME 3 should look. I very much doubt we'll have a sidebar like that by default. The Project Topaz (http://live.gnome.org/ThreePointZero) wiki page on GNOME's wiki gives some hints on what should be expected.
