The Linux Link Tech Show, as most know here, is excellent, and I really appreciated them having System76 on. It was good advertisment. Carl answered every question well. No typical corporate dodging of questions.

It convinced me that my next purchase of a computer will be a System76 Laptop.

Some good information about System 76, especially the parts about support, and the driver.

But as for the LLTS, wow. Non-existent production values, with drastic volume differences between different speakers, and hosts who were apparently doing their first research of System 76 by visiting the website while they were recording the show, which led to some stupid and repetitive questions.

Just a couple of examples: Asking Carl what system he uses, about five minutes after he mentioned that he uses a Gazelle Value, and asking what you can get for under $800 (the free shipping threshhold). Well, how about the Koala Mini, which is $599, and is the center of the freakin' front page of the website!

So, after hearing the show, I am even more a fan of System 76, but I doubt I'll ever be listening to LLTS again.

Give the The Linux Link Tech Show another chance, maybe two. This was their first podcast where every member of the cast was in a different location. Their sound is usually much better, but they have some kinks to workout with the new 'long distance' arrangement.

These guys are kind of like the "Howard Stern" of Linux. They are much more like a goofy radio talk show than informative, though I've got a lot of good information from listening.

For a really good informative podcast, I suggest Linux Reality (http://linuxreality.com/)

Dave Yates does an interesting podcast: LottaLinuxLinks (http://www.lottalinuxlinks.com/) He does the podcast will driving home from work. Makes for an interesting concept.

Give TLLTS another chance.

I think you just had the wrong idea of what kind of show it is. These guys don't put much into production or post-production. It's meant to be a spontaneous live broadcast by just a bunch of average linux guys. I actually enjoy that kind of a feel more, but its not for everyone. They have interviewed some great guests though, including Mark Shuttleworth. This comming Wednesday they are interviewing Patrick Volkerding of Slackware.

Spontaneous live broadcasts can still be produced in a listenable fashion. It's not hard to set up some basic mastering plugins to ride the gain. If I had to constantly adjust the volume, I would never watch TV or listen to the radio. There are basic principles that can be followed to make it a much more pleasant experience for the listener. It doesn't take long -- I used to assemble, edit and master hour-long radio shows for ClearChannel, and it took less than an hour to do an hour-long show. Something like LLTS could be fixed in 15 minutes.

Sounds like you just volunteered to help them out. Or, you could be on one of their interviews.

Like greggh mentioned, last week was the very first time we were in 5 different locations. 3 of us were connected via a Budgetone SIP phone to the Asterisk box. 1 was connected via the SJPhone soft phone client and we had the guest connected via a standard POTS line. We generally try to get the levels the same before the show starts. Another thing is the show goes out live. We don't have a lot of money to drop on audio equipment so donations are welcomed and appreciated. We're not professional sound engineers. If you are please give us some tips:

TLLTS rocks. Period. You just have to listen to their Windows Crash Radio podcasts and you'll wet your pants with laughter.

They need to do some post-production work? LOL! I bet they've never heard that before.
