Carl, I was wondering when your laptops will have the T7-series Core 2 Duos. Also what feedback have you gotten on your Gazelle Performance model? Didnt you mention something not to long ago aboutu professional laptop reviews being written about your computers....what ever happened with that?

We're crossing our fingers for Core 2 Duo at the end of the month - there's short supply in the channel for the 7000 series.
We're waiting on the completion of our camera driver to send out for review - I'm tired of hearing Linux laptop reviews that say everything is great but... We want it perfect. Of course customers with integrated cameras will auto update once it's completed.

Thanks Carl. Is there any way you could post pictures or something of all 3 of your laptops sitting next each other according to size with different views? I just want to see the size differences of your performance models before I pick one. What is your ratio for sold:returned laptops? How much does the Gazelle Per. weigh with the 9 cell battery? Is there an option to get a 9 cell instead of 6 cell installed, like just one or the other without buying the extra battery? And my last question, what is the battery life with life like with each battery?

Probably - I'll ask one of the guys to bring a digital camera tomorrow.
What is your ratio for sold:returned laptops?
Very low
How much does the Gazelle Per. weigh with the 9 cell battery?
Good question - I'm sure the weight increase is minimal (we don't have 9 cell batteries at the Denver office to check it out.)
Is there an option to get a 9 cell instead of 6 cell installed
No, the base system comes with the battery so the 9 cell is an add on.
And my last question, what is the battery life like with each battery?
With the 6 cell you achieve about 4 hours and 6 with the 9 cell. This varies with the config - different processors with different memory and different hard drives vary the battery life. I've heard that wifi has an effect as well but I haven't noticed a big draw on my Gazelle Value.

Does the 6 or 9 cell battery stick out any when attached? Which laptop would you recommend for a college student always on the go? And what do you think is the biggest strength and weakness of that laptop? (I know it may be hard for you to be objective but without any reviews its hard to judge before paying so much plus you own/use one from what I've read) Do you support laptops if the buyer installs Ubuntu 64? Btw I'm really liking the newer Gazelle Performance case.

The 9 cell sticks out from the back. I really like the Gazelle Performance - perfect fit for mobility, power, and accelerated graphics - it's the one I'd go with.
Do you support laptops if the buyer installs Ubuntu 64?
Until there is seemless 32 bit/64 bit application interoperability I don't recommend the 64 bit version. We won't support it on our laptops until then.

Sounds great. I recently bought a Sony Vaio FE-790 with the Core 2 Duo 7 series but it feels so cheap and the hardware support is terrible, even under MS so I am returning it. Once you guys start selling the 7 series I'll buy the Gazelle Performance. Do you know what your price is going to be the T7200 2.0ghz Core 2?

I't's tough to tell until they're available. I'm hoping we can keep the price the same.

Thanks Carl. As of now I have no more questions so I'll just wait until the end of the month and drool over the pictures you post tomorrow.

Any updates on the ETA for the 2GHz and higher Core 2 duo ? Also, I noticed that system76 has taken off the 1.83 GHz core 2 duo from the gazelle performance customization page as an option. Is it not available anymore?

We're still hanging on for Core 2 Duo's. Don't have an ETA either.

What happened to the ETA of the end of this month for the Core 2? I have been waiting for system76 to upgrade before I purchase a new laptop but I only have about one week before I have to buy something. My laptop I have now weighs like 10lbs with a battery life of about 1.5 hours. I am about to start traveling back and forth a cross the US visiting graduate schools like a day or two after Thanksgiving so I need something I can take with me, keep doing my research and school work, plus upgrade my current laptop to something that is totally up-to-date so I do not have to worry about upgrades or anything for the next 2-3 yrs. And I sold my current laptop so I have to give it to the new owner soon before they become impatient.
I don't want this to sound like a complaint bc I understand the shortage for Core 2 Duos. I assume system76 is not the only small sized vendor having these issues.

I'm as frustrated as you - every ETA i've received has been missed. We're still waiting on stock. I'll post as soon as 7000 series arrive.
