I used to use Automatix for most of my installation needs, but more recently have been turned off by the attitude of Automatix and its developers, and the facts that I'd like to learn how to do things more manually, and I want to minimize my usage of non-"Free" things.

That is what brings me to Ubuntuguide.org. I really like what you guys have done, but for the sake of maintaining the overall "Free-ness" of my system, I thought I'd ask if you have/would ever consider[ed] labeling or tagging the guides listed on ubuntuguide.org as "Free" or "non-Free" when applicable. Thanks!

I'm all for using non-Free packages, but I believe these should be informed choices, especially for new users, as they acclimatize to the culture of Linux and the open source movement.

VCSkier, I like your idea. I would think if we do this, we should agree on a very simple, unobstrusive, easily identifiable and consistent manner for doing this. What do other people think?

Orvils, if you're reading this, what do you think?

VCSkier, perhaps you should get an account. Would you be interested in going through the guide and helping to do this, if people agree this is a good idea and once a way in which to do this is agreed upon?

By the way, what has turned you off of Automatix, in terms of attitude and the developers?

To be honest, I don't know much about which softwares are Free, and which are not. Thats why I was hoping that ubuntuguide.org might be able to clear it up for me. I'd love to help however possible, I'm just not very knowledgeable in many Linux related areas yet.

With regard to my recent ill feelings for the Automatix dev's, it's mainly because of the way arnieboy has acted on a couple threads. Just to site a few, here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=93867), here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=237901), and especially here (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=1618069#post1618069), where I'm starting to agree with Kilz's point of view more and more, and arnieboy quickly regresses to personal attacks.

Don't get me wrong, it is not my intention to publicly defame him by any means; he has put alot of work into a quality project that I will probably continue to recommend to new Ubuntu'ers. There are just many reasons now why I probably won't be using it anymore (see my first post).

By the way, I totally agree. :)
