you know, I've had trouble with that plugin too. For me, it works fine when I play 'big' artists, but it crashes every single time I play an artist that last.fm doesn't recognize. Because I have a number of local musician friends, I ended up just uninstalling it altogether.

Try closing xmms, emptying ~/.xxms/scrobblerqueue.txt, and restarting xmms. That file is the queue where xmms-scrobbler stores all played songs before posting them to post.audioscrobbler.com. When a song has been posted, it is removed from the file. If xmms-scrobbler is unable to post the song, it is never removed, and the rest of the queue gets stuck.
If you don't want to erase your entire queue, you can look for any suspicious-looking entries at the top of the file that might be blocking the queue, and just delete those lines using your favorite editor.
