Anyone know how to set up OpenOffice apps so that one could intermix input in 2 languages? Would like to be able to just strike a hot-key and toggle between English and Thai, and would prefer the hot key to be the left Windows key as it has no other use.

OpenOffice.org is great for that because it will switch automatic between the languages.
What you have to do is:
Open writter go to Tools => Options
Select Language Settings => Writing Aids
Look at Options part and scroll down and check : Check in all languages
Hopefully this will help.
Best regards, Robert

Put your mouse on the top panel and right click on 'Add to Panel'.
Next scroll down to Utilities and click on 'keyboard indicator'.
That will allow you to switch between Thai and English, if both are set up.

When you select "Thai" as language used during the installation process of Ubuntu, one of the first questions is to define a hotkey to switch between latin and non-latin script during entering text. I never found a setup like this in Gnome. Does anyone know how to define such a hotkey?

During the Edubuntu Edgy install it offers a Alt + Shift option to toggle between languages.

Put your mouse on the top panel and right click on 'Add to Panel'.
Next scroll down to Utilities and click on 'keyboard indicator'.
That will allow you to switch between Thai and English, if both are set up.
Do this, then right click on the indicator (should show as "USA" or "Tha"), select "Keyboard Preferences", select the "Layout Options" tab, and open "Group Shift/Lock behavior". There you can activate "Left Win-key changes group."
